November 7, 2018 - King’s College recently completed a dual degree engineering agreement with Washington University in St. Louis.  This program will offer Kings' science students the opportunity to transfer to Washington University after their third year of study at King’s to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering in two years or a bachelor and master’s degree in three years in a variety of engineering disciplines.

“The affiliation agreement with Washington University provides King’s students additional options regarding their degree path and eventual career options” said Father John Ryan, C.S.C., King’s president.  “Both the University of Notre Dame, with whom King’s has had a dual undergraduate degree agreement for five years, and Washington University are ranked in the top 50 in the United States for the quality of undergraduate engineering teaching.  The added opportunity to concurrently enroll in a master’s program in any one of 17 engineering disciplines at Washington University was an option not previously available to King’s students.”

Students who will complete their third year of study at King’s in the spring of 2019 will be the first class to be eligible to participate in the program.  Students are required to have an overall and technical grade point average above 3.25 (4.0 scale) to qualify for the program.

Bachelor’s degree programs at Washington University are offered in biomedical, chemical, computer, electrical, mechanical and systems engineering.  Students can earn their bachelor’s degree from Washington University in a minimum of two years, while at the same time completing their degree requirements for their physics, chemistry or computer science degree at King's.

King’s students will also have an option of concurrently enrolling in an undergraduate program and a master’s degree programs in aerospace, control, cybersecurity, biomedical, and data analytics and statistics, along with a dozen more.  Students can complete both programs in as little as three years at Washington University.  Upon successful completion, a student will earn a bachelor’s degree from King’s and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Washington University.

The Washington University agreement is in addition to a 3-2 program King’s has with the University of Notre Dame which allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree from King’s in one of four academic disciplines and a bachelor’s degree in one of seven engineering disciplines from Notre Dame after five years of study.  King’s also offers four-year bachelor’s degree programs in civil and mechanical engineering.

Shown at a recent meeting to review the affiliation agreement between King’s College and Washington University are, from left, Neal Bukeavich, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the arts and sciences at King’s; Father John Ryan, C.S.C., president of King’s; Ronald W. Laue, assistant dean of engineering student services at Washington University; and Paul Lamore, professor of engineering and business and management and director of the engineering program at King’s.
